TownSizing

Janet Davis

The fact that New-Wes-Valley* isn't much of a touristy town is kind of in our favour in the off-season.  While many of the hot spots have closed their restaurants and shops until next summer, this real working town has lots of businesses that are open year round.

If you're thinking of townsizing**, consider New-Wes-Valley and surrounding area for a beautiful stop.

You can shop at my studio and at Honeybee's Floral, stop in at Salt & Sail Cafe + Tavern for a snack, a drink, or a full-on meal, hike at the Random Passage Trail, and stay at the Straight Shore Suites.

*New-Wes-Valley is our municipality which includes the much older communities of Newtown, Templeman, Pound Cove, Wesleyville, Brookfield, Badger's Quay, Pool's Island, and Valleyfield.

**Townsizing is a travel trend where people choose smaller, lesser-known towns over large cities for a more relaxed, authentic, and intimate experience. It emphasizes slowing down to connect with a place and its local community, rather than a fast-paced, "see-everything" approach. This trend is driven by a desire for a more tranquil vacation and personal encounters over anonymous crowds, often inspired by a longing for a simpler life.
