Forget Me Nots & Elbows Up

Forget Me Nots & Elbows Up

Janet Davis

Today is two holidays in one.

Memorial Day for the old colony of Newfoundland, and Canada Day for this newest province in that dominion.    For me, it's a day to remember my heritage and the fact that we stand on the shoulders of many as well as rejoice in the fact that I was born a Canadian citizen, which brings with it rights and priviledges that do not exist in many countries.  Glorious and free- and worth fighting for.

I had planned to take the day off to spend puttering around the garden, getting my hands in some mud and the like.  But the weather isn't being my best friend, so I'm indoors, at the studio after all.  I've got eight shops still waiting on me for their summer orders, and I finally finished printing them all yesterday, so until the weather dries up, you'll find me in the studio today with the OPEN sign in the window, folding, watercolouring, stamping, and tasseling products to ship out to Twillingate, Griquet, St. John's, Petty Harbour, Tors Cove, and Rocky Harbour.

But if the weather comes knocking to ask if I can come out to play, you will find me in the yard!

Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians, and I promise, as a Newfoundland & Labradorian, not to forget those who came before me.
