BBARS Art & Science Residency

BBARS Art & Science Residency

Janet Davis

Duke arrived at BBARS in wee hours, and this morning we immediately got started on some adventures together with my fellow visiting artists, visiting the Coastal Trail again and Green Point with the wind howling.

According to Parks Canada, "almost 500 million years ago, these rocks formed on the bottom of an ancient ocean.  Here geologists discovered fossils that define the boundary between the Cambrian and Ordovician periods and makes Green Point a world geological benchmark."   The rock formations are simply magnificent.  They show how the very varied layers of ancient seabed have shifted over time to jut up to a vertical position.

Back at BBARS, we chatted with the public, met the Premier of the Province, did some hooking and rope work.

Supper was had at The Cat Stop (they close tomorrow, I think, for the season), and then we spent a little time exploring a nearby beach, looking for drawing models, the wind still howling!

We spent some time looking at the fish at the aquarium- Kennedy, the blue lobster, has molted!  He/She is now blue/purple/rose coloured.

And then it was a bit of painting and linocut prep work and design work in the labratory.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow, and what it might bring (hopefully less wind!).

Goodnight from beautiful Bonne Bay!
