BBARS Art & Science Residency

BBARS Art & Science Residency

Janet Davis

I spent the morning hooking more herring in my Silver Darlings project, and then spent some time snooping around Jenniex house this afternoon- this time with two pairs of reading glasses in my bag, just in case!

I found at least two more new print ideas at Jenniex House today, and Joey.  Is there a museum in NL without a 3D portrait of Premier Smallwood?  If I were a photographer, I'd be creating a set with that background and getting everyone to pose like Joey.  It would be every Newfoundlander's profile pic!

See the mat hook?  I have one just like it, that EBP gave me, and I know from using a copper hook like that one (showing a bit of corrosion), that as you use it, the copper buffs to quite a nice shine.

I had quite a good look at the Naval uniform, and the hat seems to be made of a waterproof painted canvas.  Quite neatly made.  The pants are navy blue wool and flared.  And the stitched anchor on the sleeve is so nicely done- you don't usually think of men's clothing when you think the word embroidery, do you?  And yet, so many men wear it, from hockey jerseys to uniform badges in the forces.

Off to rest early tonight because I have to be ready for fun times at 8am tomorrow!

For anyone in the area, I'd love to see you at the Aquarium tomorrow from noon-5pm.  I'll be hooking fish again! (The puns are all for you, HW)
